Mother Tree and Mothercity

Our first project.
What are your thoughts?





These are just some of mine from another board.

1. Currency
I do like the Credstick idea for the more advanced places and trade of goods for the down right primitive ones. If we did use a Coin or currency made out of metals/minerals... it would be a "new" metal. not something that actually exists so that it would be the only thing made out of that material, so worth would be constant. Also the idea of one area alone producing it and then distributing it to everywhere else would help remove counter fitting. Since you can only get that metal/mineral from one place, which would obviously be under heavy security if not made off limits to everyone but certain nominated/hand picked people. Kind of like a Mint. I'd say either one area of ants. Since they are so meticulous. (yes some races should be driven by the actual animals behavior) Or possibly Termites. Deep ground dwellers. And so far termites in my head are one of the primitive races... but still a world power. Cuz a colony is far more like to work in sink than a town. Specially if they are run by a Queen. (not exactly like actual bugs since real queens don't do squat but breed) So she and her colony would only trade the metal/mineral to the other kingdoms for things. And then that would be turned into coins/strips/bars or whatever for each place. Thus having money that looks different but still worth the same. Plus can also have the fun of said queen getting pissed for one reason or another and cutting off the other races to said metal/mineral till she gets her way. X3

2. Mother Tree/Mothercity.
You guys are thinking the tree is WAY smaller than what I envisioned it. this sucker is huge. HUGE! I'm not talkin Tree of Might huge. (hehe... DBZ reference) But think like... A full grown Banyan Tree to an actual ant. Think bigger my dears. I envisioned multiple towns and villages through out the tree as one City. External and internal. Inside the tree, on the tree, around the tree, and under the tree. There will be an underground map system made for the whole planet as well. Promise. Can't leave out the underlings!
Also if thought as their beginning then it would be viewed differently by each race depending on the type due to the source of that race. Race's with old blood queens would obviously view the tree as sacred. that they first evolved from creatures birthed from that tree. New king/Queen races may see it differently as more of a spiritual thing than actual fact. So it would be important as a representation of ideas or believes than anything. then you have races that do not have a 'source' queen or even a ruling party at all. They may still view the tree in a sacred way for different reasons. Then you can also have the parties of all races who see it as nothing more than a big plant. because some places that have an Old Queen view her as a feral creature that needs to be forgotten or rid of. An inferior being. As some Old blood queens do have simple mentalities like the actual insect counter parts. Like modern man views Neanderthals.

3. Races
Choosing a kind of insect/arachnid you want is only for showing what that creature was based off of. As we want to be realistic but still fantasy. So all spiders are still Arachin. Just because I call Ben a Raft Spider does not mean he is a different race than Loment the Golden Orb Spider. They are both Arachins. Just different kinds.
I just wanted people to make characters based on real animals so that it is realistic in some ways. So we can have say a Luna moth but you want it to have Zebra Swallowtail markings and Monarch colors. Well it isn't a Hybrid! Its just a Lepidoran. Cross race offspring are still considered whatever their mothers race or which ever parent it most resembles. Even if the father is a Hyme and the mother is a Rhoparan. However, if we do eventually want to explore the route of 'hybrid children' that will have to be farther down the line once we have established more of this world. So you don't have to mention the insect or arachnid except to show the reference you used. Also no really totally unnatural looking babies okay. Keep some things as real as possible. Thats why we use actual bugs for these. And before someone calls me on Loment the big GAY pink and purple Golden Orb Spider he is PAINTED. Thats right he wears body paint. Thats the only reason he is so sickeningly colorful!

Well I saw before that someone meantioned that the tree could have different levels for different classes of people, like the higher up noble people, the middle class people, and so on and so forth. I thought however that there should be some kinda of entity living at the very top of the tree, like an overseer of the entire world that lays down the ground rules that everyone has to follow in order, that way not one king or queen can become overpowered and try to take over Meddus. The tree could also have it's own military that enforces these laws and in essense the tree could be it's own small kingdom. How's that?

I like that, not sure about the entity thing, perhaps and acient being, a bug thats lived longer than any other to the point the people of the mother tree believe it's immortal?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Some type of 'all knowing elder' or maybe someone that they call 'The Mother?'

Yeah perhaps an old blood queen(i can just picture one hanging from the branches.)

Err... I don't really like that. I don't want one super power controlling all the others. that would prevent the plot from ever having something interesting happen like a war between kingdoms. So an all powerful being is out. Maybe an ancient creature in the tree thats hard to find might be interesting. i knowledge keeper. But no super ruler.

Perhaps Old Queen 3 on the first page of them I drew.

And i don't want to cut up the tree like that. its more like various villages in, on, around, and under the tree that is just considered as one city. because the tree in my vision is larger than what most peeps are thinking.

The tree itself couldn't really be divided into "classes", anyway; what you reach is, I would imagine, where you live. I mean, it wouldn't make much sense to ground a flier just because he's poor and doesn't really qualify for a class. And then there's the size issue.

Although, considering the idea of different cities within one major city-state (or would you call the tree something else? Hmm...), would you figure it broken up like... I keep wanting to use DC/Metro as an example, but I don't know how many people have ever been there. XD And DC is much smaller than the tree. Hrr. But still, a single location with several smaller parts that function in tandem? Hmm... If I could draw trees, I'd try putting this on paper/in SAI to figure out what I'm trying to say. XD Hm. ...Would a single, average-sized village/town on the tree be about... how big are you thinking that'd be? Like, walking up to a decent sized tree and the village being the size of your fist, of an orange, of a pineapple... of a cherry... What?

More like separated into provinces. Think yee old China! So each province good have a better section for Richer inhabitants. or even some richer provinces than others.
Each layer would be self sufficient but all still work as a whole. So there would be tunnels, bridges, and elevators between layers. Not all of the tree would populated so there should be barren areas and what not.

I was thinking the tree was like a full grown Banyan tree to an actual insect. So there would be some distance to travel between the top and the bottom.

Well, might the flightless or just downright lazy bugs need some sort of transportation system in the tree? Like a bunch of elevators or a pulley system?

Gotten to the point of hacking things up now. Even though I haven't eaten anything... But I need to cuz these meds require something in the tummy before taking them or else I going to gets a hole in my tummy.

I have a very strange question, I was thinking of making a shrimp character, I think their insects, i know pill bugs are in the same family as shrimp, so i guess that makes them bugs right? XD

Anyway what would they come under?

Sorry to say but, they're shell fish, and I went through Wikipedia to be sure and see if they were actually classified as insects somehow, but I didn't see anything. You can look yourself if ya like. o-o;

yeah i know their shell fish, but like i said pill bugs and wood lice are also in the shrimp family, making them shell fish too XD
