In Which There Were Trials Empty
PostSubject: In Which There Were Trials   In Which There Were Trials EmptyFri May 28, 2010 10:17 am

“Of all the fool-headed, water-brained notions we’ve followed-!” Ere angrily jerked his limbs out of the thick briars, cursing all the more in a mix of his own language and about three others (possibly one he made up just for this occasion) as the sticky burrs clung to his pedipalps that flailed stupidly to get them off. The hairs were getting all irritated and tickling and hurting and ARUGH. It was going to take hours of grooming to get those right!

The Arachin had been flung head first into a patch after leaping onto the back of, what he thought, was a calm Bull Weavel that charged head first into a tree sending Ere through the v in the split trunk and into a briar patch bigger than Tal. Ere’s first thought was, he was glad he was alive and not paste against a tree. The second thought was to look in the napsack on his back to check on the baby goat to make sure it was alive. It peeped out with bleary eyes before bleating it’s disdain at flight and hunkered back down in a awkward fold of legs and knobby knees.

Then came the cursing struggle out of the burrs while cursing his, no doubt, laughing party and their plans to head to town with Bulls. BULLS. They were leading a trail of more than one. Of course they fetched a lot in the market, but they were angry and hostile towards each other, toward the handlers, and pretty much toward anything that moved. He’d rather they went after bats. They bit more than they ran over everyone.

“As soon as I get to town, I’m dumping the lot of you morons and finding the first wench I can get my hands on. Then I’m staying in a room for a week. I’m filthy!”

Not finding any reason to go through anything like a brier patch, a gold yellow killer bee flies on by quietly. Looking down upon what seemed to be traveling lifeforms with livestock with them. Really angry livestock actually. Landing on the tree further up to keep herself hidden she watches as the male seemed to rant about his current condition. Her blue wings twitching a bit, watching the area quietly before jumping down a few feet away from the ranting male.

"I'd take shelter if I were you...there's a storm up ahead, a nasty one at that." Her deep blue eyes looking her environment and the lifeforms, over to make sure nothing would surprise her.

If she was mildly more given to outward displays of amusement, and she’s not, then the baldfaced hornet would have had to laugh at the plight of her spider companion. Poor little male, no wings to arrest his graceful sail into the briar patch. As it is, her own brown tinted wings hum to life, the sinister buzzing accompanying her as she lunges for the upset bull, trying to stop him from causing more damage, or spooking the herd.

However her retort to Ere’s angered grumble about seeking more pleasurable company is cut off by the arrival of the killer bee. Even with no hive to protect, the presence of another Hyme is.... disconcerting, triggering the desire to protect and defend property and companions. But no. The males would not appreciate it, and drone though she may be, she has intelligence enough to behave better. Still... Minding the bull weevil, she finds a stance slightly more suited to attack of defence. Caution never hurt a body.

As for the declaration of incoming weather... antennae twitching, she casts her chocolate gaze skyward, mentally cursing the canopy blocking much of her view.

In Which There Were Trials Empty
PostSubject: Re: In Which There Were Trials   In Which There Were Trials EmptySat Jun 05, 2010 11:27 am

((Thankee for the PP authorization, Pen.))

Talos wasn't sure what had possessed the Arachin to ride a bull out of clear waters. It wasn't like there were any females around to impress other than the hornet, who was more than duly unimpressed already with any antics Mister Self-Appointed Ladykiller had come up with during their association.

Well, the bull was being brought under control, and so the massive behemot whuffled in vast resignation and waded through the briars. There were no thorns these plants could produce that would bother his thick armor, anyways; sedate and patient as always he moved up to the flailing irate Arachin, waited until that split second when he had to pause to catch his breath to keep on cussing and gesticulating, and fished him up by the scruff of his neck like an unruly podling, clear out of the briars.

And then the other Hyme spoke. Of course. Of course. River knew how, Erebos had found what was likely the only other female in miles around, and that... weird instinct to strut had taken ov--

A storm? The massive beetle perked up with a low, clicking rumble, felt more than heard, turning up into the wind? Water! Granted, not for swimming on, but still, water! Torrents, deluges, sheets and curtains of it!

He was, for all intents and appearances, quite oblivious of the spider still dangling in his grip.

He was, of course, cursing enough to make his ancestors cringe. Mostly from Talos picking him up like he was a wayward sprat. The damn water bug was always muscling him out of somewhere and worst yet were the hugs.

“Talos, put me down you overgrown, son of a red-faced wh-” The arrival of the FEMALE bee was enough to distract him from the long insult he was gearing up. Excellent, the women come to me! The fact that she mentioned a storm next further derailed any thoughts of the briars or romance. Storms meant rain.

Ere hated rain. He cringed at the oncoming onslaught and bit at Talos’ arm which was like biting a brick wall and just as effective. Hell, it was about as effective as a love bite when it came to the behemoth.

“Don’t just stand there like morons! You, Wasp, get the damn mounts secured away from a tree. That’s all we’d need is lightning destroying all the hard work. Talos, LET GO OF ME and help her. And you!” He pointed at the yellow bee standing nearby, “Hello there.”

Ok, so maybe the rain hadn’t sidetracked his libido at all.

Angel looked around at the others, keeping herself on guard sensing their own uneasiness with her arrival. Her wings twitching feeling the wind change as the storm grew closer. Her attention soon went back to the loud male, her antennas shifting to a more alert position in case he or the others in this group see's her as a hostile hyme and would rather attack before asking questions.

"...Hello.." She answered him politely at least. Though attention kept shifting to the storm up ahead then back to him once more, she'd rather not get wet so she was soon to start searching for a dry shelter...but at the same time...she felt she should help them find one as well.

(@_x Small, laaaate post is very, very late. Apologies)

And there it is. She knew that whatever business-like attitude the spider could scrape together would not last, particularly when there’s another female in the area. As if he is what everything female could ask for. She may not be too aware of women are looking for in a male, but in her opinion, Ere is awfully short to be a decent lay.

As for the shouted orders.... “We cannot leave them without shelter. I would rather risk the lightning, than be forced to deal with this many cold, wet bulls.” Wasp’s tone is kept rather level, almost flat, simply pointing out what should be obvious.

Not quite sure why he was getting bit, Talos eyed the responsible party and considered shaking the Arachin. Shaking fixed so many issues when you were big enough to administer one such. But the storm was closing in, and like Wasp had pointed out, it would be all too easy for them to lose their potential profit to a stray bolt of lightning or a bull on a bad mood. Thistle patches were notorious for causing said bad moods, too. And no profits meant no warm food when they got to the next town.

Talos was, in some respects, a very simple creature. And he had been really looking forward to that warm meal.

Rumbling, he turned, half-tempted to drop Ere right back where he'd picked him up. Instead, he lowered the spider to his feet gently and paused, hesitating, not sure whose leadership to follow. There were many bits of wisdom and knowledge locked up behind the expressionless face-plates of the water bug, but not too many of them dealt a lot with incoming storms and irate cattle.

He rumbled questioningly, in a pointed 'what now?' fashion, scratching at his head and looking at the bulls.

As always, Wasp was going to point out some flaw in his plan and get him all riled up all over again. For some reason, that damn female (barely a female, he internally pointed out) was always clashing against him. Why they were stuck together with the brute was questionable.

"If you think we can wrangle that many bulls together in one spot without a fight, go for it, Sugar Queen." Nothing like a nickname to make her wings twitch. Without another look, he jumped across the whole mess of livestock and landed in a slide in the dust. From there he started to herd them towards the nearest tree, not the biggest, as he'd have to hope lightning or an errant branch wouldn't spoil their funds with a untimely accident.

"The shit I do for you idiots...."

She looked to them all as they tried to organize themselves and figure out what to do with their caravan. Flying up into the air she got a birds eye view of the area, after about 2 minutes she lands beside the spider who seemed to have taken a liking to her.

"There's a small rest stop up ahead that sits at the halfway point to the town...you can get shelter there for you and your caravan..." she stated, her wings twitching as she knew the storm was just upon them

As always, the less than respectful nickname Ere has deigned to assign her elicits an angry hum from the hornet’s wings. Only once, did she waste the time explaining she is neither a bee, nor a queen, and thus his nickname made no sense. Given he deliberately didn’t listen, and in fact decided that he should call her that more, she’d decided the correct course of action was to ignore him, as much as possible. And maybe one day, should he really press it, she’ll sting him.

However, as the spider is doing as she suggested, despite the bitching, she refrains from commenting, and simply assists.... Until the bee deigns to speak up once more.

Perhaps if they were closer, or if the storm was further away, getting to the shelter would be a viable plan. It may still be, if the trees are thick enough to repel most of the rain.. A flattening of her antennae gives away her increasingly foul mood. This venture seems doomed to be uncomfortable, no matter what happens. Might as well let Ere make the decision. He’d do it anyway, just to show off to the female bee.

PostSubject: Re: In Which There Were Trials   In Which There Were Trials EmptyFri Aug 13, 2010 1:32 pm

It figures, none of them want to enjoy the storm. Talos let out a sigh that only someone his size could have mustered, looking with longing at the squall line closing in on them; it had been far too long since he'd felt water sluicing down his carapace, washing away dirt and worries.

The giant clicked his mouthplates at the bee. 'Up ahead' was a wonderful thing... when you didn't have a giant herd of lazy, unruly weevils to get moving who didn't want to move unless it were towards the nearest patch of food. And Wasp's antennae were doing that 'thing' again, the 'thing' they did when the drone was about ready to break out the stingers and start stabbing the Arachin.

Talos let out another mighty-sized sigh. Then he simply waded through the mob of weevils; true pack animals, he knew, they always had a leader, always followed a leader - in this case, the one who'd sent Erebos sailing through the air with the greatest of ease. Time to demonstrate who was the actual muscle in this operation.

A bull weevil is a large creature, no doubt about that. But the water bug was a very large, and exceptionally powerful male of what was, normally, a voraciously predatory race. The first thing he did was toss a cover over the bull's head, and then, without giving it time to try and shake it off, hooked his heavier arms under it, the smaller around it, and lifted it to a surprisingly high squeal of protest. And started walking towards the shelter, armor plates shifting with the effort.

Now, if only the others kept the herd moving after their leader...

"He scares me sometimes...." Ere twitched as he watched the large water bug haul the bull up and just start walking off. Well...while it was strange, it was a answer to their question. All they had to do was keep the rest in line and following.

"Let's get these nasty beasts to the shelter then." Ere gave one last look at the bee and Hornet before springing over the entire herd to the back of them. He grabbed up a stick and started poking the slow moving mass in the rear to get them moving faster.

Angel watched them as they either argued or tried to move their massive moody caravan before it stormed. She flinches hearing the thunder getting closer, she wished she could help but she's not trusted and she wouldn't know what to do to help them in the first place. All she could do was lead them to a shelter that she knew was near by at least. Looking back to the male that seemed to 'like her' again before speaking.

"I know of a shelter up ahead if that will help"

Wasp likes to think of herself as a level-headed creature. Not easy to surprise, or catch off guard. But when Talos simply picks up the alpha bull, and starts wandering away with him... That’s harder to just take in stride. Still, she refrains from displaying anything more of a pricking upward of both antennae, and a resettling of her brown tinted wings. But at least that solves the immediate problem of getting the beasts to move.

Following Ere’s lead, and isn’t that a scary thing, the hornet grabs up her own sturdy stick to prod at the ornery weevils, pestering into moving faster after their leader. Any concern about the bee being there is pushed aside, so long as she’s not causing any overt threat. And the storm? Unless the shelter is within the next fifty feet, today seems a day for getting wet. Bleck.

The bull wasn't squirming, which Talos deeply appreciated. Powerful or not, the water-bug was very much aware of what it was carrying, and without pause turned to click sharply at the bee. If there was shelter, it needed to be guiding them, up ahead, not off to the side. All Talos knew so far was that the shelter was a ways down the road, so a ways down the road he would be going with his burden. But he didn't want to pass the promise of shelter; the others would never stop complaining about it.

Still, the behemot found the time to tilt his head upwards and rumble in contentment when the first drops spattered against his carapace.

Inside Ere screamed like a little girl at the water hitting his hide. The deepest levels of do not want radiated down his skin in shudders. It was just...No. No no. This wasn't fun. He didn't like this at all.

He left it up to the rest to follow him as he bolted ahead in leaps and bounds. The few behind had wings. Let them figure out where they wanted to go. And the tank back there loved water. So he could handle the cargo for now.
